Best people search sites: compare name search and reports

Choose by search job, record transparency, privacy controls, price disclosure, and permitted use—not by an affiliate rank alone.

Use the visible criteria and official provider links below to reproduce the comparison before you choose a service.

By the Recordwell editorial team.

The best people search site depends on your starting information and the question you need to answer. For a name-led search, compare Recordwell, Whitebridge, StoryCheck's name search, the people-search part of OSINTsearch, and DeepSearch's name lookup. They overlap in helping you research a person, but accept different inputs, describe different reports, and sell access on different terms.

Review dates: four of the web services below were reviewed on October 17, 2026, and DeepSearch on October 21, 2026. The additional app-based comparisons retain their October 16, 2026 review date. Recordwell publishes this guide and sells reports. We reviewed public product information and our current product; we did not buy competing reports, test their cancellation processes, or run a comparative accuracy study. Provider descriptions tell you what is advertised, not what a particular search will return.

Recordwell's inputs and published plans were rechecked against its current public pages on October 22, 2026. Competitor review dates above are unchanged. This was not a paid-report or checkout test.

Compare the closest alternatives for a name-led search

These five entries are alphabetical. OSINTsearch is compared specifically on people search; its broader username and reverse-lookup tools are separate capabilities. DeepSearch is likewise compared on its name lookup, one of eight tools that share a weekly allowance. Availability can depend on location and the selected offer.

Closest name-led alternatives — public web information reviewed October 17–21, 2026
Service and reviewed page Starting information Advertised report or result Question to settle before choosing
DeepSearch: Spokeo comparison A name for its name lookup. Separate tools take a username, phone, email, company, VIN or photo; the page states there is no reverse-address or property-owner directory. Matching public profiles and web mentions by name, with original links to show where a detail came from. How much of the shared weekly allowance does your search use, and does each match link to a page you can examine?
OSINTsearch: tools Public people form: first name, state, optional last name and city. Its explanatory table also mentions a recovered email. Contact and public-record leads; separate tools cover other identifiers. Seven states are excluded by its stated people-search policy. Is your state supported, and what does the people-search allowance include? Do not apply username-tool limits to people search.
Recordwell: people search First and last name, @username or a supported public-profile link. Possible matches and reports organizing available records, public profiles, and web references, with links where available. Phone and email contact details are not included. Does a candidate fit what you knew before searching, and can you examine the context of the specific record?
StoryCheck: name search First and last name, with follow-up age and location questions. The page describes choosing among possible people. Describes public profiles, photos, work and education information. Returned details vary. What can you review about the candidate before paying, and does the offered plan cover the name search you need?
Whitebridge: AI people search Full name or social profile link. Describes a report about social profiles, professional information, and online presence. Can you inspect the underlying page context you need, and what is included in the selected report or subscription?

A profile link is a useful starting identifier, but it does not prove who controls the account. Equally, a provider describing a risk score or identity matching does not establish that the result has been independently verified. This comparison does not endorse claims of hidden-account discovery, guaranteed coverage, or superior accuracy.

Compare access, renewal and cancellation separately

A free app download, a free preview and a free full report are different offers. A paid trial is not free. Check the charge today, the next charge and date, report allowance, extra charges, and cancellation route for the exact offer shown to you.

Access and billing — dated public descriptions, not tested checkout offers
Service Free access or trial described Published billing or cancellation information What remains unverified in this review
DeepSearch The pricing page advertises free general AI chat with weekly usage. Its Spokeo comparison describes paid lookups using a shared allowance. A free chat tier does not establish a free completed people-search report. Its Spokeo comparison lists $18/month and a shared weekly allowance across eight tools. On October 21, 2026, the pricing page displayed €12/month in our browser; we did not establish that these pages describe the same lookup offer. The refund policy describes cancellation through account billing before the next renewal. The exact US checkout price, lookup allowance, and whether the displayed Pro plan covers the required lookup were not established. Checkout, cancellation and report accuracy were not tested.
OSINTsearch Its public people form advertises three free previews per day without an account. Elsewhere the tools page describes a dashboard allowance. Terms distinguish recurring card subscriptions from prepaid cryptocurrency periods. Card renewal can be stopped through the dashboard or the published support route. Exact people-search price, report allowance and the relationship between public previews and dashboard access. Pricing-page content was unavailable.
Recordwell Free search previews. Full reports require a paid plan, including reports about yourself. The public page lists Basic at $39.95/month for six reports, Plus at $49.99/month for 15 and Pro at $89.99/month for 24. Plans renew until canceled in Account; unused reports expire each period. The offer applicable to your account, promotions and tax must be checked before payment. Existing subscriptions can retain earlier terms.
StoryCheck A paid seven-day trial with one lookup is described; this is not a free full-report offer. The USD pricing page displayed $1.00 for the trial, then $29.99/week for ten lookups until canceled. Published instructions use Profile → Credits → Cancel subscription. The offer and billing date shown to your location at checkout; checkout and cancellation were not tested. The pricing page was readable earlier in this review but unavailable on a later fetch.
Whitebridge The extent of any free preview was not established. The product page describes individual reports and monthly subscriptions. Current price, included reports, renewal amount, and subscription-cancellation steps. A published order-cancellation provision does not establish the recurring-plan cancellation process.

These are dated public offers, not locked-in quotes. Read the provider's current checkout before buying. The lack of a verified price or preview here means unknown; it does not mean free, unavailable, or worse value.

Choose by the task, then inspect the evidence

You know a name. Recordwell, StoryCheck name and Whitebridge describe name-led report workflows; DeepSearch lists a name lookup among eight tools; OSINTsearch has a US people-search form with location constraints. Use the input and access tables to choose a compatible workflow. For a common name, prepare dated context you already know rather than treating the first result as the person you mean. The name-search guide explains how to narrow the candidates.

You have an @username or a public profile link. Recordwell people search accepts an @username or a supported public social-profile link. Include @ before a username. Whitebridge advertises a social-profile-link input. Compare the account's dates and context with the person you mean. Finding a similarly named account does not establish common ownership across platforms.

You have only a phone number, email or photo. Choose a tool that explicitly accepts that identifier. Recordwell accepts a first and last name, an @username or a supported public-profile link; it does not offer phone, email or photo lookup. The other tools of DeepSearch and OSINTsearch should be evaluated on their own inputs and allowances. Searqle's current public page emphasizes phone, email and photo lookup; its name-led workflow was not established, so it is outside the five-service comparison.

You need to decide whether a particular record concerns someone. A provider shortlist cannot answer that question. Inspect the original record, distinguish copies from independent information, separate event dates from page updates, and retain material contradictions. No fixed count of matching details proves identity.

The worked record-match case and worksheet illustrate this distinction with invented records: an alumni entry fits the prior notes, but a professional-register entry remains unassigned. A plausible person is not automatically the owner of every record attached to a similar name.

A four-step reading checklist

  1. Start with the identifier you actually have.
  2. Check what opens before payment, rather than judging the offer by “free” alone.
  3. Read the initial charge, renewal, allowance and cancellation terms.
  4. Review original context, copies, dates and contradictions before relying on a result.

This checklist helps you choose and read a report. It does not produce an identity verdict or a comparative accuracy score.

Other people-search services: app evidence for context

The entries below describe developer-published app listings reviewed October 16, 2026. They are useful context for other inputs, but are not equivalent to a fresh review of each provider's website, checkout or report. Entries are alphabetical; platform and offer differences matter. For notes on replacing one particular service, see alternatives to a specific service below. Check each article’s review date and original sources before choosing a service.

Additional app context — developer listings reviewed October 16, 2026
Service and reviewed platform Advertised inputs Access described in that listing Limit of this comparison
BeenVerified — iOS Name, phone, email, property address, VIN. Free download with paid options. Current web pricing, renewal and cancellation not established.
Spokeo — Android Name, phone, email, street address. Existing subscription required; no guest access or in-app signup. These app requirements do not establish the current web offer.
TruePeopleSearch — Android Name, phone, address. Advertised as free; ads may open separate paid services. Check which provider supplies a sponsored result and its terms.
TruthFinder — Android Name, phone, email. Paid options listed. Exact web price and included report types not established.
Whitepages — iOS Name, phone, address, email. Free download; some full contact details require a subscription or one-time purchase. App purchase options do not establish every web plan.

Social Catfish and FastPeopleSearch are not assigned feature rows because reliable current first-party review remains incomplete. Their omission is a verification limit, not a product rating. This review did not include a purchased-report accuracy test.

Alternatives to a specific service

If you arrived looking for a replacement for one site, start from the clue that service handled for you. Each note below restates what the companies say on their own pages on the date given; it is not an accuracy test, a price comparison or a ranking. Recordwell takes a first and last name, an @username with the @ prefix, or a supported public-profile link; it has no phone, email, address, photo or VIN lookup.

Spokeo alternatives

Spokeo lists searches by name, phone number, email and address, and its email search also accepts a username (reviewed October 19, 2026). Free-search advertising and paid access sit side by side. For a username, BeenVerified and IDCrawl also advertise username-based searches; for a phone number or an address, Whitepages and BeenVerified list reverse lookups. To leave Spokeo’s results rather than its service, its opt-out page takes one listing URL at a time and confirms by email.

BeenVerified alternatives, and how it differs from Spokeo and TruthFinder

BeenVerified’s app listings name people, phone, email, property and vehicle (VIN) searches (checked September 30, 2026). The VIN lookup is the rare part: Spokeo and TruthFinder list name, phone, email and address searches but no vehicle lookup, and all three say they are not consumer reporting agencies. BeenVerified belongs to The Lifetime Value Co., which also lists Bumper, Ownerly, NeighborWho, ReversePhone, NumberGuru and PeopleLooker among its brands (checked October 24, 2026). Those are sister brands rather than independent alternatives, and none of the pages we read says a BeenVerified opt-out reaches them.

TruthFinder alternatives

TruthFinder is run by PeopleConnect, whose own site also lists Intelius, Instant Checkmate, US Search and Classmates (checked September 30, 2026). Moving between those brands changes the site’s name, not the company behind it, its membership model or its opt-out route. Independent services include BeenVerified and Spokeo. If the goal is to remove your own listing, no new membership is needed: TruthFinder’s opt-out address forwards to the PeopleConnect Suppression Center.

Intelius alternatives

Several of the most familiar sites like Intelius belong to the same company: PeopleConnect lists Intelius alongside TruthFinder, Instant Checkmate, US Search and Classmates, and the US Search footer reads “Intelius LLC d/b/a US Search” (checked September 30, 2026). For a different company, look outside that group; BeenVerified and Spokeo describe their own name, phone and address searches. To take your own information off Intelius, its opt-out page leads to the PeopleConnect Suppression Center, which starts with email verification. That suppression concerns name-search reports, so phone, address and email reports may still show information.

TruePeopleSearch alternatives

The closest alternatives to TruePeopleSearch are other free directories: FreePeopleSearch, SearchPeopleFree, ThatsThem and FamilyTreeNow all let you search without paying, and SearchPeopleFree and ThatsThem also take a phone number and a street address (read September 30, 2026). They differ in what sits behind a paywall, how removal works and what they say about the Fair Credit Reporting Act. Recordwell is not a free directory: search previews are free, and full reports require a paid plan.

FastPeopleSearch alternatives

CyberBackgroundChecks, PeopleSearchNow and SmartBackgroundChecks each take a name, a phone number or a street address and describe their searches as free; Spokeo pairs free searches with paid memberships, and PeopleFinders mixes free and premium tools (read September 30, 2026). The same opt-out form turns up on several of these sites, so one confirmation may not cover every listing. Before entering details on a removal page, check that the address bar shows the site you meant to open.

PeekYou alternatives

On September 30, 2026, every peekyou.com page we opened showed a notice that the domain is controlled by Atlas Data Privacy Corporation, following a New Jersey lawsuit under Daniel’s Law that the notice says has been settled. Sites that still take a username or an email address include IDCrawl, Social Catfish and Spokeo. Recordwell accepts an @username, including the @, or a supported public-profile link; a matching account does not prove who controls it.

Check the removal route without buying a report

Buying a report and asking a publisher to remove your listing are different tasks. The FTC explains site-by-site opt-outs, including free requests you can submit yourself and periodic checks for new listings. Removal from one service does not erase original documents or copies held elsewhere.

For a site-by-site starting checklist, use the people-search opt-out guide. Check each publisher's current procedure; a removal request does not remove the original record from its issuing office.

  • DeepSearch: its removal page, updated September 28, 2026, describes a free request without an account: a full name and an email address that receives a confirmation code. It aims to review ambiguous name-only requests within 30 days.
  • Recordwell: the removal route is free and does not require an account. It applies to Recordwell results.
  • OSINTsearch: its opt-out page describes free suppression for matching Social Search and People Search information without an account. It does not delete upstream records.
  • StoryCheck: the opt-out page retrieved for this review was localized and presented phone/email removal. A route specifically for a name-only record was not established; do not assume the displayed identifier form covers every report.
  • Whitebridge: the product footer publishes an Opt-Out link. Its form requirements, cost and completion were not verified in this review.

No removal request was submitted as part of this comparison. Save the relevant confirmation if you make your own request.

Keep personal research separate from eligibility screening

Recordwell is not a consumer reporting agency. Its reports cannot be used for employment, tenant screening, credit, insurance or other FCRA-covered decisions. Read the Recordwell prohibited-use notice. A competitor's use of “background report” or “verification” is not evidence that its report is suitable for a regulated screening purpose.

Where Recordwell fits as its search develops

Use Recordwell people search when you have a first and last name, an @username or a supported public-profile link and want to review returned information. A supplied link does not establish who controls the account. The preview is free; full reports are paid. A result can be incomplete or incorrect, and a missing result does not prove that a person or record does not exist.

Search methods change. This guide describes publicly available inputs and terms as of its review date; it does not promise future lookup modes or turn an algorithm update into a proven accuracy advantage. Recheck the offer and the evidence that matters to your question before relying on a report.

Search a first and last name

The preview is free. Full reports are paid; removing your own information is free.

FAQ

Questions

What is the best people search site?

Choose by your starting information, task and access terms. Recordwell, StoryCheck name and Whitebridge describe name-led report workflows; DeepSearch lists a name lookup among eight tools; OSINTsearch has a US people-search form with location constraints. This review does not establish an accuracy winner.

How do the name-led people-search services differ?

Recordwell accepts a first and last name, an @username or a supported public-profile link. Whitebridge advertises a full-name or social-profile-link input. StoryCheck name describes a first-and-last-name flow with age and location questions. OSINTsearch's public people form uses first name and state, with optional last name and city. DeepSearch lists a name lookup among eight tools with a shared weekly allowance. Separate lookup modes have their own inputs and limits; report scope and payment terms differ.

Which people search site is the most accurate?

We have not run a purchased-report accuracy benchmark and cannot name a most-accurate service. Check the original context, dates, independent details and contradictions for the specific result. A provider’s feature description or score is not independent proof of identity.

Are people search sites really free?

Distinguish free download, preview and full report. Recordwell previews are free and full reports are paid. OSINTsearch advertises a limited free people preview, with dashboard access described separately. StoryCheck describes a paid trial. Whitebridge's free-preview scope was not established in this review. DeepSearch advertises free general AI chat; that does not establish a free completed people lookup. Check the exact offer before paying.

Is checking yourself on Recordwell free?

Search previews are free. A full report requires a paid plan, including a report about yourself. Removal requests are free and do not require an account.

Can I search Recordwell by @username, phone, email or photo?

Recordwell accepts a first and last name, an @username or a supported public-profile link. Include @ before a username; a handle without @ is not accepted. It does not offer phone, email or photo lookup. Neither a username nor a profile link establishes who controls the account. Reports do not provide phone numbers or email addresses.

Does removing my information from one site remove it everywhere?

No. Check each relevant publisher’s process. Suppressing a listing in one people-search service does not erase original records or copies elsewhere. Buying a full report and requesting removal are separate actions.

Can I use Recordwell to screen a tenant or employee?

No. Recordwell is not a consumer reporting agency. Its reports cannot be used for employment, tenant screening, credit, insurance or other FCRA-covered decisions.
